Again, this is all my experience and perspective with them. My hunch is if they get even a small spattering of out of spec' complaints, that item will change vendors quite quickly. Always better to give them figures, though, to justify your dissatisfaction. In my experience they are pretty receptive of such, which I consider a very good thing. I figure they just weren't selling stock at the Starrett prices for certain items and decided to try some other vendors and judge the feedback. I have noticed a select few items like parallel clamps and other arguably "basic" tools have been coming in Fowler rather than Starrett brand as previously. Should have been marked "Made in Spain" in ink on the plastic if you looked closely. It doesn't surprise me to hear it has likely caused some glitches in the interim.īarry. The entire front offices have been gutted, and I am told the HVAC is entirely being rebuilt, etc. They are now working out of unused warehouse space in the stock area. I CAN say that over the winter they started a major construction project that has displaced the majority-if not all-of their office workers. I am so close to the Chicago warehouse that I almost exclusively pick my stuff up in person / will-call. I'll just go back to using my local suppliers again, and only use McMaster-Carr if they have something I can't get elsewhere. ![]() The 4th arbor was so bad I pitched it in my scrap metal bucket. Another two of the arbors I may or may not use. Profit sharing adds about 75 to each employees salary each year. One of the arbors I already have used and it works fine. I kept the chuck keys, they will work fine. None of the arbors or keys has the Jacobs brand name on them, in fact they look to be of such poor quality, I would guess they are from India. So Wednesday afternoon it is, that's fine, I wasn't in a rush. And my UPS deliveries don't come until early afternoon. Choose from our selection of pin gauge sets, including plug gauge sets, wear-recognition plug gauge sets, and more. And I'm 350 miles from Chicago, so it probably takes UPS a couple days to get it here. I guess I can understand that, as a late Friday order probably doesn't go out until Monday morning. I received the order the next Wednesday afternoon. so I placed my order on Friday (late in the day). I then checked McMaster-Carr, who was slightly higher. I checked the Enco website and got prices on Jacobs brand parts. I just needed some drill chuck arbors, and chuck keys. Always do what’s best for yourself.I've never been especially impressed with McMaster-Carr either, but everyone on this site seems to have good luck with them, so I gave them another try a couple weeks ago. ![]() Just get what you can out of whatever job you have and always put your physical and mental health first. Needs to improve: No complaints they have great pricing. No company is going yo be perfect though. We always tend to use McMaster Carr due to their quick fulfillment of items and exceptional service. McMaster is a good company in my opinion. ![]() You can still stack some money get an education and make a different move career wise. Some people feel like they have golden handcuffs. The company offers 100% tuition reimbursement, so if don’t like the culture and don’t see yourself working their long term you can get a Master’s, MBA or certification to go forge your own path. If this is what you want don’t be discouraged from trying yo move up. It’s possible to get promoted from a warehouse specialist to a supervisor but I have only seen it a handful of times. Mostly graduates out of Ivy League schools or universities with great reputations become management trainees and move up in the company. It seems very difficult to move up in the company. The company has great benefits, and you will have great co-workers.
